This unique design, also known as “pied-de-poule”, was adopted by the European upper class as a symbol of wealth during the 1930’s. This canine-sounding name was inspired by the uneven shapes of a Hound Dog’s teeth, and the smaller houndstooth check is also known as “Puppy’s tooth”.
