Linen textiles appear to be some of the oldest in the world, where examples found in Europe and Africa date back thousands of years old. For centuries linen has often been associated with wealth since it was mainly used by the upper classes of society. Linen is a bast fiber, made from the fibers of the flax plant, and it is labor-intensive to manufacture, thus produced in relatively small quantities. When fabricated, it is highly valued for its’ smooth texture, organic natural luster, and exceptional coolness in hot weather. A very durable and strong fabric, linen is one of the few that is stronger wet than dry, and it has no lint or pilling tendency. Nevertheless, the tendency to wrinkle is often considered part of the fabric’s “charm”, including its’ random “slubs” (small knots) that provide the aesthetic appeal of a natural product. 


CARE INSTRUCTIONS: Machine wash warm with like colors (preferably on gentle cycle) and with mild detergent (do not use bleach, and do not pour fabric softener directly on garment). Tumble dry low, or line dry, or air dry on a good non-absorbent hanger. Warm, steam iron (to reverse side). Dry clean OK.

Our enchanting Scarlet fabric print draws inspiration from classical floral designs of the Victorian era during the early 1900’s. This was a time of brief return to romanticism in all art forms, including architecture, residential décor, and apparel. This 100% Washable Silk Crêpe de Chine is woven to have a supple, organic feel, unlike many fabrics woven with synthetic fibers. With a 12 mommes weight factor, our Eco-friendly silk of choice is lightweight but is suitable for sewing into many body styles designed for women's silk clothing.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS: Machine wash warm with like colors, and with mild detergent (do not use bleach). Tumble dry low, or line dry. Warm iron (silk setting). Dry Clean OK.

Our enchanting Scarlet fabric print draws inspiration from classical floral designs of the Victorian era during the early 1900’s. This was a time of brief return to romanticism in all art forms, including architecture, residential décor, and apparel. This was also a period where floral designs became more lavish, and utilized in excess. Floral patterns were often realistic and often combined to create a mélange of diverse species, thus imitating the contrived cottage gardens that were in vogue at that time.
